About jalle

Swedish Craft,

Newcastle Made

NORRLAND is the cabinet-making practice of Jalle Torell, a Swedish-trained craftsman with more than 30 years of experience in fine furniture and custom joinery. Based in Warners Bay, Jalle works with clients across Newcastle, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie and the surrounding region to create bespoke cabinetry, renovations and handcrafted timber pieces for both homes and businesses.

Jalle’s journey in woodworking began in northern Sweden, where he completed his cabinet-making apprenticeship in 1989. His training centred on traditional furniture making, precision joinery and a deep appreciation for timber — principles that continue to guide his work today. After moving to Australia in 1990, he spent over two decades contributing to residential and commercial projects while refining his craft and developing his own design approach.

In 2013, Jalle founded NORRLAND, named after the northern Swedish region, where he grew up. He remains hands-on in every project, working closely with clients from concept to completion to create practical pieces, carefully detailed and built to last.
